L'art CaddySince 1988

Our storyA story of love, pies and America

At 7 rue des Petits Degrés, tucked away in a lane of the Saint-Malo ramparts, L'Art Caddy is no ordinary restaurant. It's a journey — through time, and all the way to Louisiana. It all began in 1988.

  1. 1988

    The encounter

Babeth, a girl from the Saint-Malo neighborhoods, and Bob fell in love… and with a place: a small salad bar hidden in a lane, L'Art Caddy. They took it over together. The dream of a lifetime began in barely a few square meters.

  2. The trip that changed everything

Exhausted but driven by the urge to reinvent themselves, Bob and Babeth flew to the United States, where Bob has family. Louisiana, Houma, the heat, the spices… With Audrey their Cajun host, then alongside Dovie, an alligator fisherman from the bayou, they discovered a cuisine that moved them. They came back to Brittany with stars in their eyes — and suitcases full of recipes.

  3. The americana turn

The decor became the showcase of their memories: flags, license plates, Elvis, Route 66. Bob put Cajun dishes unheard of in the region on the menu — jambalaya, alligator, bison, Rib's BBQ — while Babeth started making sweet pies that quickly got people talking. L'Art Caddy stood out; people came from afar to taste these flavors from elsewhere.

The sweet & savory pie shop

With the arrival of Léa and then Scott, the couple reorganized everything: refocusing on what they do best — American-style savory and sweet pies — and opening only at lunch. Closed on weekends, to enjoy family time. L'Art Caddy became the go-to spot for sweet-toothed locals.

  5. Today

The same soul, 35 years on

Bob has handed over the reins; Babeth is at the helm, paired with Maia — keeper of the secret to the famous coleslaw. Hundreds of regulars, word of mouth that never wavers, a notable appearance on France 3 (its Christmas decor and upside-down tree, December 2025), and a first franchise opening in Dinan. More than 35 years on, the same soul, the same pies made fresh every morning.
